Pool Automation & Controls in Tracy, CA | Nevergreen Pools

Tracy gets steady afternoon wind, and it puts fine dust and grit in the pool almost every day. That debris sinks, loads up the skimmer baskets and the pump strainer, and works its way into the filter. A pool circulated on a schedule built around that stays clear. One running on a time clock somebody set years ago and never touched again does not.

That is the practical case for automation & control systems in Tracy. A controller lets you run the pump harder through the windy hours when debris is loading up, drop it to low speed overnight, and fire the cleaner or the booster at the time of day it actually does something. You are not walking out to the equipment pad to flip a rocker switch. You set the schedule once, then adjust it from your phone when the season turns.

Nevergreen Pools installs and commissions automation on residential pools throughout Tracy, in partnership with Vintage Pool Service, a longtime Central Valley company based on East Yosemite Avenue in Manteca. Between the two crews we cover Tracy, Manteca, Stockton, and Modesto, and we work on everything from a three year old pebble pool with a variable speed pump already in the ground to a pad that has not changed since the original single speed motor went in.

How an automation install runs, step by step

Most of these installs happen with nobody home, so we work a fixed sequence and leave the pad running at the end of every day on site. Here is how it goes.

The pad walk. We open the sub panel and take stock of what is actually in the ground: breaker sizes, bonding, the existing time clock, the pump, the heater if there is one, the lights, and how many valves are in play. A pad with a spa, a solar loop, and a heater needs more relays and more actuators than a pool only pad with one pump and a light. We check that the 8 gauge solid copper bond is continuous through the pump, the heater, and anything new we add, because on older pads it is often broken or corroded off at a lug. We also measure the distance from the pad to your router, since signal reach decides whether the controller talks over wireless or needs a hardwired network run back into the house.

Picking the system. We match the controller to the equipment you already own whenever that makes sense. Pentair pads with an IntelliFlo pump and a gas heater take an IntelliCenter, or an EasyTouch on smaller setups. Hayward pads get an OmniLogic, or an OmniHub when you mainly need pump and heater control without a full valve package. Jandy equipment runs on iAquaLink. Staying inside one family matters more than most people expect: the pump and heater talk to the controller over their own communication cable instead of being switched blindly through a relay, so you get real speed control and live heater status rather than just on and off.

  • Pool only pad, one variable speed pump and a light: a compact panel with a few relays covers it.
  • Pool and spa on shared equipment: two actuators minimum, heater control, and a spa side remote.
  • Heater, solar, cleaner booster, and a water feature: a full size panel with room to expand.

Wiring. Line voltage comes into the panel and lands on the correct relays, sized to the actual load rather than whatever was there before. Low voltage is its own piece of work: actuator leads, water and air temperature sensors, the communication cable out to the pump and heater, and the antenna or network run. We keep low voltage separated from line voltage inside the conduit so the signal stays clean, and we seal every penetration in the enclosure, because wind blown dust gets into any gap you leave and coats the board inside of a couple of seasons.

Retrofits, water chemistry, and what happens after we leave

A fair number of the pads we open already have a controller on the wall that nobody has touched since the builder handed over the keys. The schedules are still factory defaults, the actuators rotate the wrong direction, and the app was set up on a phone that has long since been replaced. That is a retrofit in everything but name. We reset actuator travel and end points, rebuild the schedules around how the pool actually gets used, re-enroll the panel on your current network, and get every adult in the house onto the app with their own login. Older pads take more. A single speed pump on a mechanical time clock usually means a new sub panel, a variable speed pump so the controller has something worth controlling, and fresh conduit for the low voltage.

Chemistry sensing. Water in this part of San Joaquin County is hard, and calcium and alkalinity both run high before you put anything in the pool. Hot dry days and steady wind push evaporation, the level drops, and everything left behind concentrates. Adding pH and ORP sensing to the controller means the water gets read continuously and dosed in small amounts, instead of swinging between extremes across the days nobody is home to test it. High alkalinity drives pH up on its own, and scale on a pebble or quartz finish is difficult to walk back once it sets. Probes are not maintenance free. They need cleaning and recalibration a few times a year, and hard water shortens that interval, so we say so on day one rather than after the readings have drifted.

Commissioning and training. Nothing is finished until every button does what its label says. We run each circuit, confirm the valves land correctly in pool mode and spa mode, verify pump speeds against the flow the filter and the cleaner actually need, check that the heater fires and reports temperature back to the panel, and set freeze protection so the pump kicks on before the water gets near freezing on a cold night. Then we sit down with you and the app. You learn how to change a schedule, how to add pump time after a dusty stretch, how to start the spa remotely so it is warm when you get home, and what the alerts mean, so when something is wrong you can tell us what the panel is saying instead of guessing.

Done right, automation & control systems in Tracy take the routine off your hands. The equipment runs the pump, the cleaner, and the heater on a schedule built for this dust and this water, and you deal only with the exceptions, from wherever you happen to be.

Standard pool service can be like visiting the dentist for a cleaning- necessary, but not exciting. It isn't until you find someone who truly cares about their craft that you realize how different it can be. Our pool isn't just clean, it sparkles. Recommendations for improvements are made, but not pushed. Service is consistent and my needs are considered proactively. Kyle's attention to every detail demonstrates the difference between a pool company that is focused on churning pools vs. the concierge service that comes from an owner who takes pride in their results. Highly recommend.

This was the third time we have had them come out to keep our filter running. This time we were under the impression that we were going to need to replace the pump for almost $4000. When Nathan came out, instead of just blindly changing it, he pointed out some minor things that needed to be done and only charged the diagnostic fee. We have had Kiani (on the spelling) and now Nathan out, and both have provided excellent service. Highly recommend this company!

Keoni came on time and was very professional. He was super knowledgeable about every piece of the equipment as well as the iAquaLink app. He not only got my system running, but helped me adjust the parameters to save money on electricity. He pointed out what issues might arrive in the near future and without trying to upsell just let me know what to keep an eye out for. I already have pool cleaning services, but will absolutely use Nevergreen pools for all my pool repair needs.

Jeff has great work ethic & most pleasant demeanor which is reflected in how the pool looks when he's done. I try to fill in between his visits but he makes that task minimal. We've been pool owners for almost 50 years, the first half of that time I managed the pool condition, the second half we've had it professionally done & Nevergreen offers the best service in this experience. The after-service email photo say it all & a nice touch.
