Filter area gets matched to pump flow, not to the size of the pool, and this is where a lot of replacements go wrong. Every filter has a maximum design flow rate, and if the pump can move more gallons per minute than the media can handle, you push dirt straight through and the filter runs at high pressure from day one. We size up on purpose. More square feet of cartridge or more square inches of sand surface means longer runs between cleanings, lower pressure, and less strain on the pump. The tank is rarely the only worn part.
